legacy, is making remarkable strides in our Wiregrass community this summer. As an alumna of Dothan Preparatory Academy, Keristen’s passion for STEM was evident even during her formative years, when she actively participated in STEM programs and sought opportunities to expand her knowledge and leadership.

This summer, Keristen brought her talents and enthusiasm to the PicScience Math Boot Camp and Math Tournament, where she served as a summer math tutoring intern. In this role, Keristen expertly designed personalized resources for students who needed extra support with foundational math concepts. She also led advanced third through fifth graders, guiding them through the complexities of multiplication, division, and fractions, and helping them recognize the vital connections between these critical topics.

Keristen’s commitment to building a strong foundation in math for younger students is a testament to her dedication to STEM education and her desire to give back to her community. Throughout the summer, she supported students and invested in her professional growth, developing individualized learning materials, leveraging state-of-the-art technology created by a local scientist, and identifying specific learning gaps to ensure every child achieved success.

Her hands-on experience at PicScience has helped Keristen further cultivate her leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, qualities she first developed as an active STEM participant at Dothan Prep. In her words, “My experience has been nothing short of amazing! As their teacher, I was empowered to coach, support, encourage, and challenge, and I am a better person because of this opportunity.”

Keristen’s journey from an eager STEM student at Dothan Prep to an inspiring mentor at Carver Academy is a shining example of how early engagement in STEM programs can lead to lifelong success, leadership, and service. Through her actions, Keristen is helping younger students build confidence in math and motivating them and her peers to embrace STEM education and community involvement.

At PicScience, we prioritize procedural fluency, empowering students to perform mathematical procedures accurately and flexibly and understand the reasons behind the methods. This approach ensures our students are prepared for real-world problem-solving and future success in STEM.

Keristen Saulsberry’s dedication, patience, and enthusiasm have been instrumental in creating a positive learning environment, helping every student realize their potential. Together, through the Math Boot Camp and Math Tournament, PicScience is proud to empower young minds to tackle the challenges of math and STEM, preparing them for a brighter tomorrow.
